What is sustainable tourism?

Enjoying tourism activities without creating damage to the natural environment or local community. Sustainable travelers are conscious that we must be the change so future generations will be able to enjoy the same tourism opportunities.

Sustainable Tourism Certification

The Certification in Sustainable Tourism Program (CST) is a program of the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) designed to differentiate tourism businesses based on their natural, cultural and social sustainable compliance and excellence.

CST consists of a scale of 5 "levels" of sustainable tourism achievement. Valle Dorado is currently in the CST accreditation process.

By this mean Valle Dorado Travel Agency very dearly welcomes you to Costa Rica and also informs you that we are committed to SUSTAINABLE TOURISM. For this reason we would really appreciate it if you could keep the following in mind during your visit to Costa Rica:

• Try to protect the natural environment by all means.
• Do not extract, keep or commercialize any flora, fauna or archeological/cultural piece.
• Never feed wild animals. You do them no favor.
• Denounce any violation of environmental law to the tour guides.
• Save water and energy at all times possible.
• Please dispose your garbage correctly and help us recycle.
• Established load capacity must be respected.
• Do not go out of the trails.
• Walk quietly so you don’t disturb the natural environment.
• Don’t hunt, hurt or disturb wild animals.
• Sexual harassment, underage prostitution and drugs are illegal in Costa Rica and Valle Dorado will report them.
• In case of any emergency during your stay in our country dial 911.
• Follow all the instructions given by the guide and local authorities.
• Carry your drinks in reusable bottles and avoid disposable plastic bottles.
• Mind your personal belongings at all times.
• Please try not to smoke while in natural environments.
• Ask and collaborate with the hotels sustainable practices.
• Share these conduct standards with other tourists.
