Costa Rica Language

During the colonial period Costa Rica was a part of the Spanish Empire, which explains why our official and most spoken language in the country is Spanish.  However, there are still a lot of very small indigenous tribes who have its own native languages like bribri, maleku and cabecar.

In Puerto de Viejo, Limon on the Caribbean Coast most inhabitants are from Jamaican origin thus speaking some kind English dialect.

You don’t have to worry about communication problems though, because most people in Costa Rica speak or at least understand English. Every hotel, car rental and souvenir shop will for sure speak English.

Valle Dorado offers perfect English speaking travel agents, drivers and tour guides. We can also offer tour guides who speak other common languages like German.
